La fuga (The Scape), 1994, is an allegorical painting which addresses in an innovative way the flight of the Cuban balseros. In place of people, the make- shift boat is cramped which crows. They are shown dangerously riding the crest of giant ¨red¨ wave. The crimson waters are a direct reference to those who have lost their lives trying to abandon Castro`s Cuba.
